Steal My Crawl: Bart Everts

Need ideas for your crawl? We asked some folks to share how they participated last year, or what they’d like to do this year. Take inspiration or copy them outright–we won’t tell!

Bart Everts, Rutgers Librarian and Archivist

Bart Everts is a reference library at the Paul Robeson Library at Rutgers University-Camden where he curates the library's Special Collections archive. He has also written articles on South Jersey and Philadelphia history for Hidden City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania History, and other publications, and served on the Upper Darby Library Board and Historic Commission. A native of Collingswood, he now lives in Philadelphia.

Bart’s Crawl

This year I plan to take the PATCO train to the Haddonfield stop to hit Inkwood Books, one of my all time favorite bookstores in the region. Inkwood is an iconic indie shop that I often come in from the city to visit, and even when I have a book in mind, I often end up with a novel from the staff picks. Haddonfield is has one of those classic downtowns, with unique shops and restaurants. I'm looking forward to finally trying a veggie dog at Hot Dawgs, and I almost certainly will hit up what I'd argue is one of the coziest watering holes in New Jersey, Wildfether Distillery (depending on the time of day I'll either grab a coffee or a highball). Although I'm not typically a romance reader, I enjoy a long walk with a destination, so (fueled by either whisky or coffee), I may trek west to Collingswood to check out Kiss and Tale, finishing off with chana masala from Namaste Indian Bistro before I head back to Philly.

Bart’s shopping list

Originally I was planning on grabbing Sam Jones' No Meat Disco, but it's not out until September, so I hope to pick up a surprise.

A favorite bookstores outside of NJ: The Last Word, West Philadelphia

Favorite bookstore merch: My t-shirt from Raven Used Books in Northampton, MA

A bookstore I’d like to visit: Honesty Bookshop in Wales

I read best… at home.
