Steal My Crawl: Lindsay McNamara

Need ideas for your crawl? We asked some folks to share how they participated last year, or what they’d like to do this year. Take inspiration or copy them outright–we won’t tell!

Lindsay McNamara, founder and CEO of Beachy Birder Adventures

Lindsay McNamara has been birding since she was nine years old when she saw her first Great Blue Heron along the Raritan River in North Jersey. She has been working in conservation, development and communications for over 13 years. She created Beachy Birder Adventures, through which she leads guided bird walks throughout New Jersey and encourages all to appreciate the beauty and wonder of nature. Passionate about the connection between birding, mindfulness and mental health, Lindsay is always looking to engage new birders in her lifelong passion and her favorite bird is the one she’s looking at!

Lindsay’s Crawl

Books and Birds! I absolutely love reading outside by the water and listening to bird song. It is so calming and peaceful and brings me so much joy. For my 2026 crawl, I envision going birding at Sunset Lake in Asbury Park and then stopping in to see Finch at Wolfe & Kron Books. After that, heading to the other side of town to bird along the ocean and Wesley Lake and head up Cookman Avenue to see Michael and Jordan at Asbury Book Cooperative.

Lindsay’s shopping list

Anything related to things with wings!

A few favorite bookstores outside of NJ: Bear Pond Books Store in Stowe, Vermont and Bridgton Books in Bridgton, Maine

Favorite bookstore merch: My fiancé and I collect bookmarks from all the indie bookstores we visit together and plan to put them on a map of the state and display them in our apartment!

A bookstore I’d like to visit: Barrier Island Books & Art - West Cape May. When isn't a trip to Cape May a good idea?!

I read best: Outside or in a bubble bath!
